Research Scientist

1. About Us

NanoFrontier is a research-driven startup that provides end-to-end solutions from design to mass production and quality assurance for materials in energy, environment, and pharmaceutical fields, centered around nanoparticle generation technology through reprecipitation method developed over many years at Tohoku University. We also provide nanoparticle manufacturing services and technology licensing, rapidly advancing joint research and PoC with manufacturers and academic institutions in Sendai (main base) and Tokyo (collaboration base).

2. Role & Responsibilities

In preparation for pilot equipment installation and trial operation, NanoFrontier needs to steadily accumulate verification experiment groups. This position will advance core experiment planning, implementation, and analysis, ELN-compliant recording, and establishment of standard protocols and equipment conditions. We’re looking for someone who can solidify the foundation through flexible experiments and careful recording.

3. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and analyze nanoparticle synthesis and evaluation experiments
  • Operate and record data from various measuring instruments including DLS and other particle size evaluation equipment
  • Create and update protocols and SOPs (standard operating procedures), record in ELN (electronic lab notebooks)
  • Expand conditions from small-scale to medium-scale experiments, create data for transfer
  • Safety and quality management (SDS confirmation, waste liquid treatment, reagent storage and labeling)
  • Support creation of academic presentations and technical materials for customers

4. Requirements, Skills & Experience

Required

  • Alignment with NanoFrontier’s business and mission

  • 2+ years practical experience in synthesis or evaluation in chemistry/materials fields

    (or master’s degree or higher research experience)

  • Experience operating particle size evaluation equipment like DLS

  • Skills to accurately manage lab notebooks and data

  • Basic safety knowledge (SDS understanding, waste liquid treatment rules, reagent storage and labeling)

Preferred

  • Knowledge of colloids/dispersion systems, crystallization, or scale-up assistance experience
  • Experience in DOE (experimental design methods), statistical analysis, data processing using Python or Excel
  • Experience as technical contact for industry-academia collaboration and joint research, assistance in patent drafting

5. Location & Work Style

  • Location: Sendai
  • Work style: Hybrid (4-5 days in office per week)
  • Work hours: Full flex (core hours 10:00-16:00)
